Blog Roll

I thought I'd expand my universe

I have been posting my thoughts in a fan website for the band Yes for a few months. I'm sure many people thought they went away a while back, their demise is greatly exaggerated. As representatives from the plus 60 and still touring crowd, they're doing all right. Once I got into the website for Yes, I quickly realized that I wasn't in a blogosphere with only hippies and mellow dopers. Their fans are a little microcosm of the world we live in. It was populated by some very right wingers, some very religous folks and even people who never let you know whether they had any issues, other than what's going on with the band. Since I had a lot of positive feedback, I thought I should give the big boy blogging a chance, so here I am.

As far as the whole lefty righty political views go, in my small pond experience I've found some things which illuminate our societal conflicts and their effects upon us. The righties are not very adamant about our president, they tend to stick to defending what they know about the situations and that's all. The lefties are very much sold on the incoming president and that there needs to be some impeachin' going on. Lefties feel that Mr. Bush is soon to be called before congress to determine which war crimes will be pursued. Now that the whole Illinois governor issue is in the air, the attemp to latch this proceeding on to Mr. Obama is viewed as right wingers getting their pound of flesh before the Hope, Change president can have a chance to fix all of the problems created by George Bush. In many ways all of this is equivelant to retelling the news, flipping between CNN & Fox. We are so divided as a nation that there is no way to put us back together again. Nothing has any real meaning any more, it can all be justified to a point of view. Both sides of people tend to whip out their talking points in the blogs, rather than floating an opinion to be defended. Telling stories with words cut out of magazine articles and TV shows. We've lost our voice in all of the media surrounding us. Because we rarely have neighbors that we involve in our lives, we listen to the talk show guys and pick someone we feel is most like ourselves. We don't even have our own opinions any more. There's probably ten percent of the population that stands on the opinion they generated on their own, the other ninety percent are led around by someone elses rope.

The Yes site did tie in a large number of people with differing opinions politically, to express their appreciation for the music of Yes. It had all angles, theories and clicks that worshipped different members of the band. Yes is currently touring with a new singer, Benoit David, replacing Jon Anderson, some people are giving him a chance, some want him strung up by his privates for even attempting to tour with this long tenured band. Alternatively their is a new keyboard player as well, the son of Rick Wakeman, Oliver, he has been welcommed with open arms and no protests.  I had belonged to this site for many years, never venturing into the fanbase till recently. This is my first post, I hope you enjoy it, maybe I'll bring up some things you can relate to in any future posts.
